I would only like to point out that the city of Hamburg has a relatively developed bike infrastructure so this can play a crucial role for the outcomes and experiences of the people commuting by bike. Had this research been conducted in a less developed city in terms of bike infrastructure, the results would have been probably different.
Hi Thodoros, good point and it would be interesting to conduct the research in cities with different levels of cycling infrastructure! However, while Hamburg does have a relatively developed cycling infrastructure, many participants did report frustrations with frequent construction, lacking detours for cyclists, etc. This mainly influenced their travel experience and day-to-day wellbeing, but did not seem to impact the value and meaning they assigned to being able to cycle on a more general level.
