Time flies when you're having fun! 🚲✨ It’s already 2025, and we can’t believe all the milestones we’ve hit at the Urban Cycling Institute. This year marks 10 years since our founding, plus 2 years since becoming a Dutch not-for-profit (stichting). And just like that, it’s been 1 whole year since our very first newsletter! What better way to celebrate than by announcing the winners of the Best Testimonies from our newsletter survey (launched in November 2024)! 🎉
Join us in congratulating Julio Sa, Leen Baetens, and Joram Kisach! 🥳 The lucky winners will receive some Urban Cycling Institute-branded goodies, and their testimony will be featured in our Annual Impact Report!

🔬 CRBAM 2025
Let's start with our biggest event of 2025: The Cycling Research Board Annual Meeting in Amsterdam this September! Think campfire vibes, biking in the sun, climbing on desks, and playing with stickers—yes, we do all that and still manage to stay academic and create real-world impact!

📍The Brug, University of Amsterdam, Roeterseiland Campus

This year is the 9th edition of CRBAM 2025, hosted by the Urban Cycling Institute and the University of Amsterdam! My experience at PCC 2024 was enriching and unforgettable. Despite the short duration, as it was a summer program, all the topics were explored with great intensity and depth, where we were always encouraged to explore and question more about the environment we were in.
Within this, I believe one of the lessons that impacted me the most was one of the first ones, where we learned to question the narratives that have always been told to us about the formation of cities, especially how we have accepted the simplification and rationalization of street use to be more productive and centralized for cars.

🚲 Study Excursions - New dates available!
Planning a trip to Amsterdam soon? We’ve got new guides, fresh dates, and flexible times, available through the end of April 2025!
We're excited to introduce our new team member Asaf Oz who will be leading study excursions through Amsterdam’s most innovative cycling infrastructure - an immersive learning experience and a unique chance to connect with local experts - all from the saddle. Here’s what past participants loved the most:
“My appreciation for the importance of pre and post research that explores the experience of the many users of urban transportation infrastructure was greatly expanded. As well the tour deepened my appreciation for how planners need to develop a fulsome contextual understanding for the implementation of infrastructure initiatives. We will encourage our transportation planners to get out and cycle, walk and drive our city routes.”

Introducing Webinar Series 🆕 🎉
We're kicking off a brand-new Webinar Series! Some sessions will be open to the public, while others will be exclusively for our Members. Registration for the first webinar in March will open soon - stay tuned!
